Introduction to Deadly Dilemma...A Memoir
An introduction to my book is “The Letter…I Never Sent”, where I wrote, “It’s hard to believe I am finally at this place. I toyed with this thought for decades. I talked about studying suicide as a sociology major in college. I told friends and family that I understood how one could get to the point where it made sense. I said I understood it from an academic and conceptual standpoint, but I could never do it myself. I believed what I said.”
In Deadly Dilemma…A Memoir, I share my journey from “So It Begins,” to “Dropping Out,” to “Coming to Terms,” to “Does It Really Matter?,” and more. In closing, I write, “I commented that my struggles with these issues are in no way unique to me. And by comparison, my challenges, disappointments, and failures are not noteworthy. Therein lies the epiphany of this entire exercise. My story is my story. It is not yours. My successes, victories, disappointments, and failures are mine alone. You have your successes, victories, disappointments, and failures. My anchors are mine, and I now know they are strong enough to withstand any force that would seek to separate me from them.”
I invite you to open the pages of my book and relive my journey. In the process, discover your story and find your anchors. They are there. They may not be the same as mine, but they are there. Find them, latch onto them, and do not ever let go.
