Deadly Dilemma: Suicide, Faith, and
the Search for Identity and Purpose
An introduction to my book is “The Letter…I Never Sent”, where I wrote, “It’s hard to believe I am finally at this place. I toyed with this thought for decades. I talked about studying suicide as a sociology major in college. I told friends and family that I understood how one could get to the point where it made sense. I said I understood it from an academic and conceptual standpoint, but I could never do it myself. I believed what I said.”
In Deadly Dilemma: Suicide, Faith, and the Search for Identity and Purpose, I share my journey from “So It Begins,” to “Dropping Out,” to “Coming to Terms,” to “Does It Really Matter?,” and more. In closing, I write, “I commented that my struggles with these issues are in no way unique to me. And by comparison, my challenges, disappointments, and failures are not noteworthy. Therein lies the epiphany of this entire exercise. My story is my story. It is not yours. My successes, victories, disappointments, and failures are mine alone. You have your successes, victories, disappointments, and failures. My anchors are mine, and I now know they are strong enough to withstand any force that would seek to separate me from them.”
I invite you to open the pages of my story, and Reflections, and relive my journey. In the process, discover your story and find your anchors. They are there. They may not be the same as mine, but they are there. Find them, latch onto them, and do not ever let go. Most important of all, ask for HELP, and ask again, as many times as it takes!

When Love Comes
on Four Legs
Meet Jethro
Hello! I am honored to meet you. Little could I imagine seven years ago what life had in store as I peeked out from under those porch steps. There’s a lot to unpack here, including how my sudden appearance and assimilation into Momonk and Pappy’s lives after a hurricane have merged into the story of Pappy’s previous memoir, and its aftermath. With any luck at all, when LOVE Comes on Four Legs will be the first installment in that saga. For now, welcome aboard! Thank you for coming along for the ride. This is gonna be fun!!!
